Dividing buildings into distinct fire-protectedareas is typically accomplished by providing fireresistancerated separations between thoseareas. This type of separation is easily achievedby the use of gypsum board applied to eitherwood or steel framing members. These fire-ratedseparations are usually provided as totalassemblies, consisting of the structural member,the gypsum board and structural flooring material(if a floor/ceiling assembly).
